HOW TO PREPARE

Train for physical and mental challenges, including swimming and map reading. Make sure you’ve got all necessary paperwork prepared before the Local Selection event.

KEEP UP YOUR PHYSICAL FITNESS

Stamina is key. Always take the stairs, and get at least 5,000 steps in every day. Build your strength, at the gym or at home, and practice open-water swimming in a safe and controlled environment.

TRAIN YOUR BRAIN

Try to complete a puzzle or crossword every day. Improve your general knowledge by reading. Follow global news. Make sure your geography and map reading are up to scratch.

GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

Try going without your home comforts and devices for a week. Go for a walk with just a map and compass in the rain, heat or at night (but stay safe). Get up early. Try a cold shower. Socialise with unfamiliar people. Push your limits.

BE PREPARED

Make sure you’re in good health. Check your passport and driver’s licence are valid. You’ll need your licence to register at the Market Selection event. If English is not your first language, consider practising until you feel confident.
